Southern Maryland Consortium of African American Community Organizations


The Consortium is an operating, action-oriented, leadership body of autonomous African American community organizations that work together to achieve common goals for its community.  It is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization and does not engage in political activities.

The mission of the Southern Maryland Consortium of African American Community Organizations is to build an active network of community organizations that strengthens the African American community.

 The Goals of the organization are:

  • To address common concerns and issues of the Southern Maryland African American community;
  • To strengthen community organizations by serving through collaboration and;
  • To improve the quality of life for African Americans in Southern Maryland.

The Consortium operates under a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that defines the respective and shared responsibilities of the organizations.

Consortium membership includes the Presidents of the: Calvert County NAACP; Charles County NAACP;  St. Mary’s County NAACP; Concerned Black Women of Calvert County, Inc.; Calvert County Minority Business Alliance; Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Sigma Alpha Lamda Chapter; Minority Business Advocacy Council of Charles County, Inc.; the TIPS Group of St. Mary’s County; and Challenged Teens of Prince George's County.
